How it works ?

Drag is the enemy

Fish are as sensitive to underwater drag as they are to surface drag when fishing dries. If there is drag, the fish won’t take the fly.

Drag is created by the current speed gradient from bottom to surface. Don’t let the surface currents control your flies.

Contact nymphing overcomes drag because there is nothing floating at the mercy of the surface currents. There is direct contact with the flies for better drifts.

If you don’t notice the take,

you miss the fish

Underwater footage has proven that fish can take an imitation and spit it out in the blink of an eye. A classic floating indicator doesn’t detect subtle takes, so a high percentage go unnoticed. Contact nymphing provides enhanced strike detection because there is direct contact between the angler and the flies. Ultrasensitive sighters can register the subtlest takes.

Fish where the fish are

The strike zone can be at different depths in each stretch. Also, changing fish behavior can make them move in the water column. Contact nymphing allows anglers to fish different depths in each drift. There is no preset depth, and you can control the depth through presentation variations. This flexibility permits you to fish runs, rifles, pools, shallow water, flats, and tail-outs with success.

How many tools do you need?

Probably 80% of fishing situations happen below 40 feet (12 m). Contact nymphing outperforms other techniques up to 46 feet (14 m).  And also, ou can swap to traditional fly line for dries or indicator nymphing in less than one minute.

In addition, you can use dry-droppers, indicator nymphing, and streamers with the contact rig and benefit from its technical advantages to overcome drag.
